Nice video, would be really interested to hear more thoughts from you on flatting these small 4bets with position. I know from my experience if someone competent flats my 4 bet I really don't feel comfortable unless I have the top of my value range. I've also noticed some players 4betting smaller to around 23 bbs oop where as in the past it was more like 27. I suppose if their opponent is never flatting only jamming or folding this is good. What's your preferred sizing?

How about using both betsizes with whole range after 3bettin AQ against 50bb and that kind of flop texture? Small bet and big bet (push). Push hands that wants fold and have enough equity to do so and balance with made hands (the AQ hand) that suffer a bit seeing turn. Bet small better made hands and bluffs too weak to push. I have seen cap specialist example Clockwyze using this kind of strategy. Basically bet very small or push after small 3bet against miniraise (30bb).

Flop was 8h4h9d and 293 in pot and 372 left. Two betizes strategy: For example push: 9x-JJ, openended, smallish fd, at least AQ,AK with bdfd. Bet small JJ+,AQ-AK with fd, weaker than AQ to b-f. What u think about the basic idea in generally? ( If we forget that opponent is possible bad.) It feels wrong to bet-fold AQ with the stack sizes. Sure feels dirty to simply push but if the opponent is good the turn without fd or pair will be difficult? (Sorry I cant speak good english..)

Hi Phil, I thought this was a good video. Although someone like DrGiggy might be more familiar with the $5/$10 games as of late, it's still awesome seeing your approach. I started a thread regarding the AQo hand mentioned in the comments here before me in the "Blue Fire Poker Videos/Articles" forum to discuss your equity against his flop shoving range. BTW, I think you have to fold A8s against a small 4-bet from UTG.

Thanks for the video Phil. I particularly enjoyed the conversation about check raising the turn surrounding the TT hand.

phil, interesting discussion regarding turn raises. pls continue with more of your thoughts on this & flatting small 4bets IP nxt vid; as a reg in these games i'll say that i have experimented myself with floating flops and making small turn raises over guys that are barreling high, with pretty good success. as far as i can remember most of the time i was getting a fold, although the last couple times i've done it comes to mind i was shoved on, but that was probably just do to my opponent actual

actually having a hand. i definitely think this is a very profitable +EV play, people are barreling far too much right now and making plays like this will let your opponents know they aren't gunna be able to barrel wrecklessly vs you. in conclusion i definitely think its worth exploring further, i imagine the typical adjustments will be more checkraising on the turn and definitely more pot controlling weaker value hands that they might normally be barreling away with. interestd tohearurthoughts

About the turn c/r range I think I remember aejones saying its a horrible thing to do with pretty much your entire range and he motivated it by something like if you have a good hand you wanna let them keep bluffing or something that really made sense, obv im retarded and dont quite remember the specifics. Could you expand a little on that since you believe that not to be the case. Cheers

evilsky...seems like phil isn't posting responses on vids lately. Obv I'm not him at all but it seems like creating a frequent cr range against a light barreler is very effective bc you're increasing the chance of stacking them when you have it, and winning that wide 2nd light or thin value barrel when you have a hand too weak to call. Also most people don't cr turn a lot; so many aggressive barrelers probably react poorly to it.

I really liked the discussion about c/r turns. Would be nice with some more discussion on that. I often feel like Im repping a little too thin. I´d like to balance it with some draws but I dont feel like raise folding a decent draw on turn ( if he shoves ofc). I guess you could raise bigger so you get the odds but a smaller raise fits better with bluffs and value raises

As far as the AQ hand, yes, I do think a 2 betsize strategy is a good one. I'm just not sure which betsize category I want to put my AQ into (or what % of the time I want it in each). I'm still not sure what's best in that spot, and I don't think it matters a whole lot. What's more important is that I have a bet small-fold range and a bet small-call range, as well as a somewhat balanced shoving range.

    18 Mar 2010 at 12:53pm
The flatting 4bets thing is tough to analyze mathematically. On one hand, I have around 3:1 immediate odds (with a cbet coming, so more like 4.5:1 on average) and maybe 30% preflop equity against his VALUE range (more against his air). In addition, I have position, though that matters less given stack to pot ratio. Unfortunately, I will be dominated on some flops, and I will fold the best hand against all of his bluffs most of the time. It's something that I could try to explore in it's own

hey, an theorie vid about this would be great =) why do you think A5s at the button is against an UTG raiser not profitable? you call 87s all the time ? because the aces are often dominated ? but on the otherside we have position and deep stacks behind

Graffa... Yes, I call 87s but A5s is more marginal. I don't have proof for you, but yes, I think the fact that you're so often dominated by AJ+ makes it worse.
