Would have been interesting to have a little bit more details on those custom filters you were loading.

Nice video Alan, thank you! I wonder what you think about having some small losers in your range in certain preflop spots (for example 3 bet bluffing or openraising in early positions) in order to get payed bigger on bigger hands since you don't go into that at all. same with some other minus-ev spots like very thin double or triple barrels. it just seems to me that you pretty much only look at the game as if every hand was played in a vacuum. what is your standpoint on that? Thanks

Isnt this something a player can focus on once he has eliminated his obvious leaks? Which is the objective here :).

Good question Tom and one I've discussed in length with many players. It is defensible to have some slight losers in your game, however I strongly believe that in levels under 1K NL you do not need to. My entire game is about exploiting my opponents leaks. In any given spot I can pretty much have any two cards, but vs a specific opponent my range is fairly set. Obviously this is exploitable, but a player will have to go well outside his comfort zone to exploit me and I'm always looking for players doing things their stats indicate they shouldn't be doing and I adjust.

Davidsson, go back in my series and watch my database review series and I show how to build the filters.

Imagine you review a players database every 100k hands and in every step cut out his losers in a certain spot. He will become a total nit after some repeatings and i even think that if this procedure is repeated for long enough, only AA will be profitable and only if he shoves it directly preflop to pickup the blinds. So to say a hand group in a certain spot is unprofitable (or profitable for that matter) for a certain player is something that can not be done purely by database analysis, but has to consider the players tendencies with those handgroups. Of course database analysis is a very powerful tool, but it is problematic, to say the least, if it goes without further review of the players game. What do you think about that?

Tom, I disagree strongly. My game has gone through this level of anaylsis every 100K hands for the last million or so hands. I current paly 25/20 with a 10% 3B. I fold vs 3B's 45%. My 4B is over 3%. Nearly every part of my game is profitable, the only exception is that I over defend vs the 3B and the very bottom of my 3B defense call range and that's a leak imo. I am a nit in EP/MP and when playing vs EP/MP opens. I think Btn opens should be minimum 50%.

The core of my poker theory is that certain hands just don't have a strong enough flop connectivity in certain spots. In EP/MP hands like A6s,KJo just don't have enough flop connectivity given the number of players left to act and that you'll often be playing oop. The same w/ colding calling vs an EP/MP open. How well does A5s suited really play as a cold call? I base this on hundreds of database reviews and how rarely I see certain ranges returning profitable results.

Just had another thought. In a 100K hand database I'll regularly see strange things. If results fit in with my expectations i.e. A6-9s in EP is unprofitable I don't go any deeper. If they aren't making money with a range that should be returning a profit then I focus on their post flop play and figure out why they aren't make money.

Hi, excellent video, I don't suppose you can provide all your custom HM filters for us BlueFire members?

Sry WhiteKnight, those are the core of my coaching program. However if you watch my database analysis series I show you how to make many of the filters.
