When we isolate OOP utg w/ A2 @3:05 and ~ PSB it just seems like we rarely have a card advantage and that with 40% limp I don't see the value here. On the flop could you explain the sizing? Maybe I have a leak but I don't think I iso worse that like KQo or ATo here. What PPs would you ISO vs limp in this spot? As played I have a question about your post flop play. -This is a spot where i get tripped up, when we are playing against someone with 50-75bb and we have Preflop initiative in a good cbet spot with only 1 high card and back door equity or maybe we have the OESD with no high card equity, how does the reduced implied odds affect our aggression in these spots? Are you planning to overbet shove a club here if he flat? Also how do factor our equtiy vs a SS for the times where he shoves Qx or a flushdraw or a gutter and we fold on the flop? When you 3bet @12:20 with KQ saying he has a wide range, wouldn't it make more sense to flat KQ and 3bet a more polarized range to begin with? Are we assuming someone with a side 3bet range is going to react well to a balanced 3 bet range opposed to a polarized one? Is your standard versus a wide opener to be balanced or unbalanced until you develop postflop reads?

Thebowskii, you always ask great questions. Regarding KQ, if I flat or 3B depends a lot on player type (watch my using stats video 2 for a complete breakdown). If I think they will defend wide vs my 3B I strong feel like a 3B is best as you'll have them in lots of dominated situations. If they don't defend widely i feel like 3B'ing is a waste as flatting allows you to connect w/ lots of flops they will bluff at plus keeps in their dominated range. I'm now going to watch the first hand you asked about and respond when I'm done.

LIke I said in the video I'm not very comfortable isolating w/baby off suit aces oop for all the reasons you stated. However, over a big sample I've found them to be profitable. W/ this opponents stack size my flop sizing was upped not only to give me maximum fold equity (trying to fold out a weak pair or better ace) but to set up a close to pot sized shove on a club turn. When he gets deeper I start to rethink my line-there's a point where stack sizes are such that betting to big is going there's still a lot to go in. IN that case I usually bet size smaller to give me room to fold vs a turn jam. If he shove light on the flop, then he gets us and we're going to be exploitable, however if he is doing this enough it will soon show up in stats and then I'm no longer taking this line w/ backdoor holdings, instead I wait for value.

I don't iso w/ 22-66. Intellectually i think they should play similar to baby aces (w/ baby aces I'm saying my opponents either fold enough to the raise or the the cbet to make it profitable). Maybe the difference is always having an over when I miss the flop? IN any case, over a very large sample I've not found 22-66 to profitable iso hands in or out of position.

Hey Alan thanks for your response and clearing up my questions. One thing that wasn't covered in your video, if villain is 4bet happy do you polarize your range more and drop this mid SC's that you say you really like for post flop deception? Also what about taking the same mid suited connecters out versus someone what either 4bets of folds but only 4bets like 1% of the time or a pure value range and otherwise does not play in 3bet pots? I appreciate the Ax iso explanation and I agree that 22-66 is no good post flop and that when we hit our hand we are going to get lots of folds and it would be hard to justify barreling with max of solid 2 outs in many case. I think this may be a spot were 22-66 can me marginal with 100BB+ stacks as an ISO IP but I am not sure. I remember another video where you decided to make a turn barrel bigger than your usual it was like 75% on a turn scare card on a relatively non-coordinated board w/ total air, I guess this hand falls along the same concept, we don't want villain floating or looking us up light, but in this case we actually have a wide range of double barrel cards.

VS someone who 4B a lot I go w/ a very polarized range. I don't like 3B'ing a marginal hand like AQo and then hating life when they 4B. Something I've thought a ton about is players who both 4B a lot and call a lot of 3Bs. What I've found is that their 4B range is polarized and my AQ and 99 are going to be in poor shape if I go aipf, but with their calling range being so wide I'm wondering if it's best to just go ahead and 3B AQ/KQ/AJs/99/TT? fold vs a 4B because there is just so much value to be had from when they flat w/ a dominated hand.

VS some one who 4B very little my 3B range is determined by their 3B calling range. If they also fold a lot to 3B, my hand really doesn't matter. I might be tempted to take some hands such as suited connectors and flat w/ them. If they call a lot of 3B I need hands I can fire barrels w/ decent equity. Suited aces and mid suited connectors fill this roll nicely.

good video. enjoyed the insight of betteting and his propensity to call vs his stack size and fear of losing it. Could have lived without the salad bar chit chat!!!

thks riffs.  I hvae lots more videos in the works.  Much of my videos are made w/ players like you in mind, exploring the fundamental concepts that many take for granted and trying to articulate the reasoning behind those concepts in a way that makes them easily accessible.

Hi Alan, Two questions: 1) Why did you leave the one table (around 25-30 minute mark)? You have about 2.25 buyins behind. 2) I'm new to this site. I see that you don't have any 6max after 2012. Why is that? Thank you.

The video is really old so I'm not sure why I left.  I'll never leave a table just because I'm deep.  I generally only leave because the recreational player left the table.  While replay videos are very easy to make and often entertaining I believe they are a very poor way to communicate higher level information.  I do try to do a replay video series once a year since they are popular.  I think there is a 200NL from last year.  About time to do another one.  I currently play 400NL+ SHNL.
