| Tilt, advice | Edited on : Jan 23, 2010 06:45 PM |

Now, things have been going quite well lately. But I am unable to control my tilt, particularly in chat. I can become very nasty in chat, when it comes to poker. For some reason dealing with poker tilt is very very difficult for me. I am very controlled in all other areas of my life, I am seldom upset and very hard to provoke. I hardly ever become angry etc. But when I play poker I experience all sorts of negative things.
For some reason I am still able to win, but it does affect my winrate a lot. I have tried making many rules for myself - like stopping for an entire day if I call someone a donk in chat. But I cannot do it. I am starting to think that only way for me to stop titling is to disable chat completely and emotes on a site like pkr. So I do not have to listen to someone saying: thanks for the money. Or something else after they get lucky. I have been getting a lot of warning on some poker sites for stalking people and telling them to die :)
But maybe I should just disable chat completely? I have tried not to tilt for a year now, but it is getting worse. What is your best advice for me? And does anyone here play completely without using chat and disable observer chat, etc. I am worse than PHIL HELMUTH!
How do you deal with it?

Just be honest with yourself when you know you are steaming and take a break. However long it takes, you should wait till the hand is all cleared out of your head. Pretty simple

you need to always be int he right fram of mind when yousit down to play. Make sure that you are always trying to play the best poker possible and tell yourself that nothing else matters if that is your focus.
In terms of calling ppl donkeys in stuff, not being tilted by bad players is really just a function of understanding the gam eof poker. If someone makes a terrible call down, it's information for you to adjust to. If someone donks your cbet with mid pair, its information for you to adjust to. Basically, anything that you percieve as a bad play becomes exploitable if you see it as a oppurtunity, not as a "this shouldnt have happened" moment.
To build on that, focus on taking notes, everytime you see a showdown, not talking in chat.
Alos, make sure you are properly rolled, so the money doesnt matter.

1: ignore the chatbox
2: having more buyins for your BRM.
3: play less tables, esp when taking a shot
4: don't expect to win every session, just focus on playing your A game, cuz seriously u'll start chasing what you lose and start to play bad

"I have been getting a lot of warning on some poker sites for stalking people and telling them to die :)"
I sincerely hope this a joke. :)
If not, I will offer my two cents:
Imagine that you are 10 years old. It's recess or playtime or whatever your school called it. You are outside looking to enjoy yourself and 4-5 other kids invite you over to play a fun game. You start to play and are having fun with your new friends. As time passes you start to get a bit of an uneasy feeling. The next thing you know the other kids are trying to steal your lunch money. When they eventually get it they berate and taunt you, telling you how much you suck at their game and sarcastically thanking you for paying for their tasty lunches. You go hungry for the day and feel pretty awful and rejected about the whole situation. The next day at recess the same 4-5 kids ask you if you want to play again.
