re: "Show or muck" I totally understand where you're coming from here, but this approach has costs as well as benefits. I've become a nearly full-time live reg playing mostly 5/10 in the Detroit area. I think whether and when to fastroll is one of the trickiest decisions in live poker. I usually fastroll, but I'm conflicted about it. I've been influenced by Tommy Angelo ("I believe the better play in a headsup showdown is to turn your hand over anytime you hear your opponent declare a hand that you can beat or tie. It's stylishly trusting, and fast.") I know I'm giving up some ground in the information war, but I think it's worth it. 1) It speeds up the game. 2) Few of my usual opponents have a strong enough understanding of poker that they can adjust to revealed information profitably. 3) The poker economy for 5/10+ in my area is insular and fragile so I'm extremely concerned with stimulating action. Being perceived as a fun, action-y opponent could make the difference between a fish playing a 6-hour 10/20 heads-up session with me, or just going home when the game breaks. -

Those are valid points and against certain bad players I dont make them show their hand when I own their souls because I know their game already and dont want to add insult to injury to the bad players. Ive played in a deepstacked 5-10$game where I have to ''watch my image'' to make sure to be re-invited so those are valid concerns but usually this is for mostly private games. This video was aimed at the 2-5$ casino games where you dont need a invite to play and there is always a game running. Bottom line: I agree that sometimes you have to sacrifice some EV (in this case in the form of information) to maintain a fun/non-bastard image. Its a EV calculation that certainly has to be done but I find that players too often show their hand when they dont have to. -

Thanks for the video, a lot of good information in this video, esp. considering I play in Canadian casinos and Vegas as well. It seems like some of the etiquette information so far is geared towards people playing full-time or near full-time. I'm probably in the minority but I play mainly online and about 1-2 times/week live. I don't know how much benefit someone like me would gain by forcing someone to show their hands on showdown, for example, esp. if I might not see them till a month later if ever. While agree that showing your cards unnecessarily is -EV (like the example you gave where you had the nut flush cracked by the full-house) how do you deflect players and/or friends asking questions about your hand? I've actually made some good friends playing live poker and there are times they ask me what I folded and I find it hard to deflect them. I try to be vague most of the time but it's tough for me to avoid saying what I had in every situation. -

My standard response now when people ask what I had is just to look at them and smile in a friendly, '' im-not-telling'' kinda way :) Something I used to do is when people would ask me their hands I would ALWAYS reply that I had deuces... eventually they understood not to ask my hands lol. I disagree that getting to see their cards isnt as useful for you since you dont play everyday... that information you gain can certianly be useful in that very session. -

stellar vid, I appreciate any attempt to step out side the standard hand replayer videos (which are good too though). This one works out well I'm looking forward to hearing more, tips like this are hard to find from an online players' view point. perhaps the reason you talk aloud when you're tanking live is you do it playing online. Question: People always say don't talk strategy at the poker table, but they don't seem to know the difference between sharing strategy and convincing someone to divulge their own strategy. But I always wonder if I started the subject would everyone roll their eyes...kinda like not talking to work buddies about work? Does it seem rude and tedious or will people be happy someone is openly sharing info? for example, someone might say to the guy beside him, 'oh i wouldn't have raised there?' and he'll say 'well I thought i was good'...I always want to say 'well what would you have done if x happened?' is that text book bad etiquette because people are sick of poker talk at the table? -

its not bad etiquette... its teaching the bad players to play better. For example, one time I said something like '' you should have bet-folded that river '' and a v good reg looked at me with big angry eyes. Later he told me that most of these live donks didnt even know it was possible to bet-fold the river... its not bad etiquette and I enjoy talking strategy but not in front of the fish... -

Bad etiquette? Not exactly. But if you open the door to strategy discussion people will start saying things that will make you bang your head against the table until you pass out. Try it sometime and you'll see what I mean. -

Ya I'm def not gonna give anything away about my game. Most people idea of a conversation is just me asking question and them talking about themselves. Some people you can tell you can get them to spew their entire strategy, just wondering if it annoys regs and the like when they have to hear all the 'poker talk' -

I liked the discussion on short stack play. I routinely buy in for max or ~100bb. Never really thought about min buys. Another weapon for the arsenal. Will def give it it a go.
