I've been playing a little bit of HU lately, which i might have to quit because everytime i play i get so fucking tilted. Either they hit and run me or they play super nitty and and i pay them off like an idiot. I just paid off this fucking dumbass nit, cuz i fucking leveled myself............... FUCK POKER. I don't know if i'm gonna play the tournies tomorrow, i'm so fucking tilted and playing so fucking bad.

More Isildur1

So I didn't get to play any poker today, my internet was real spotty and i didnt want to risk tilting myself so whatever, i just took the day off. I have been railing a decent amount of the HU matches going on, and i have to say, i'm VERY impressed with Ivey. I just have no idea how the guy does it. It seems like he's just perfectly balanced in terms of his betting frequencies. He's really controling the pace of the match, and anytime isildur1 has tried something crazy, Ivey's picked it off. Not saying he hasnt been bluffed at all, but it seems like hes dictating the match, something Durrr has really struggled to do. I feel like durrr is getting "out-durrred" if you will, he's the one whos used to putting people to these really tough decisions, and making all the crazy overbets, but in this match i feel like he's the one whos doing all the guesswork. Something that Ivey is doing which i feel is really smart is just not value betting nearly as thin as durrr is. It really forces Isildur1 to tone down his bluff shoving, because he knows that Ivey's value bet range is so tight. Also if you notice that that the people Isildur1 has struggled with the most are the live pros, Ivey, PA, and Benyamine. I think the main reason for this is that live pros just have a way different approach to the game, and they're used to playing against players who are way more aggressive than they are. I could be completely wrong, (LarsLuzak wrote in his blog that he thinks Ivey is the most aggro person he's ever played), but yeah i think that Ivey and PA will continue to get the best of Isildur1, and durrr is going to continue to struggle unless he makes some changes. It's like the old sports saying, "Teams that press, don't like to be pressed" (You can replace press w/ blitz or whatever fits the sports metaphor you're trying to use) Durrr doesn't like to be durrred it seems.

close again, but no cigar

I finished 15th in the bodog 100k, and made some deep runs in a few fulltilt tournies, but i cant seem to come through with a big score. I can't seem to get myself to start grinding. I keep saying to myelf, ok, today i'm going to play at least 6 hours of poker today, but i end up just playing a couple, and being like alright whatever, i won a little bit, i'm just gonna quit.

As for my previous post about not trusting bodog, its not that i think they're cheating me, i just feel like they cant be making a ton of money from their poker room, and that at any moment they could just be like ok, we're shutting down. There are some other reasons too, I don't really like the software, and i can't use my HUD etc etc. (Yeah, i've become way too dependent on my HUD, its bad i know.) Bottom line is, i don't wanna keep that much money on there.

Isildurrrrrrrrrrrrr1

Say what you want about this guy, but he's freakin amazing. He's playing HU vs the best online players in the world at their best game and just crushing all of them. Durrrr of course, Cole South, Brian townsend, I mean, the guy just has no fear. I honestly feel like the money doesnt matter to him like ti does to a lot of hte nosebleed players. He's suspiciously good, almost like, super user good. I can't wait to see if anyone can evenutally figure him out and beat him. Him vs. Ivey should be a very entertaining matchup. I feel like a player like Ivey, whos approach to the game of poker is so different than a lot of online pros, might cause some problems for isildur.

All has been pretty good for me lately. I've been playing exclusively no limit the past month and i've been doing pretty good. I've also started p90x, and i'm insanely sore all over. I've been really lazy with my grinding, playing only a couple of hours a day, i'm gonna work on that a little and hopefully play a little more. Also made a 600 dollar deposit on stars, and i'm gonna try to build up a roll. I'm looking to take most of my money off bodog. To be honest i'm not sure how much i trust bodog, and i'd rather not keep a lot of money on there. Plus i hardly play there anymore, the games dont run till later in the evening, time that i'm usually spending doing stuff with my friends or watching tv or whatever. Till next time, Peace.

I'm swearing off PLO for at least the rest of this year. I made some really bad plays today in addition to losing every flip. I just cant seem to win at this game and its hurting my bankroll. HOLDEM ONLY from now until further notice.

poker sucks

Poker has been rough lately. As a result, i haven't been playing much lately, but when i have been, i've been playing super super shitty, and i've just been getting owned. My downswing at PLO really frustrated me, and i'm just being super super spewy.

These kinda downswings are just super depressing. I think my problem in life is that i'm not sure what will make me happy. I thought doing this for a living would bring me happiness but after doing it for a couple of years, i'm seeing all the negatives and realizing that i'm not happy. Obviously i'm in a terrible state of mind while writing this and in a couple of weeks i might go on a huge heater and be like poker is awesome blah blah blah. But i really don't see myself doing this forever, but i really don't see myself working a 9-5 job everyday for the rest of my life either. I guess i'll have to do some soul searching while trying to fix my game.

Variance or do i suck?

I still have yet to solve the puzzle that is plo. I certainly FEEL like i'm running bad, but i'm not 100% certain. It seems like i just get pounded everyday over and over. I have a positive all in EV, but i'm stuck about 14 buyins over about 13k hands. Maybe i'll move down to 1/2 for a while and try to get better.

Response to delux247: I've never cashed out more than 10k at a time. The checks do come in incraments of 3k max, and they take about a week to arrive.

PLO

Ugly ugly ugly session i just played. 4 hours, 4 tables and stuck just under 10 buyins. I dont think thats THAT abnormal for plo, but still pretty gross. Now i remember why i stopped playing this game in teh first place. I really want to get better at it though, but the variance is really gross. It was a ridiculous session, i was stuck like 3k, then i won 2 huge flips and was even, then i lost some huge flips and was stuck almost 4k for the session. I'm not going to blame it all on luck, because i know i'm making a lot of mistakes. Now i just have to find them and hopefully correct them, because i plan on playing a lot more PLO.

I also got a subscription to cardrunners using my FTP points, so i'm going to watch some more videos and hopefully figure out what i'm doing wrong. For those who are wondering which site is better bluefire or cardrunners, its hard to really say. I think bluefire goes for quality over quantity, and Phil's videos are IMO the best out there. However that being said, what cardrunners lacks maybe in quality it makes up for in pure volume. I would recommend both sites to those who are interested in training sites.

Just stuff

Poker's been going ok, i've been like really lazy only playing like 2 hours of 4 tabling a day. I just watched the latest episode of 2m 2mm and i feel so inspired to just go into "lockdown" and grind a lot. It was a pretty sick episode, Krantz was battling viffer at 200/400 and was getting killed, then he realized viffer had a bet sizing tell and crushed him ending up 350k winner. It was kinda weird though, you wouldnt think a player as smart as viffer would have such an obvious tell. (Every time he potted it was a bluff).

In other news, apparently ESPN magazine is releasing an issue called ESPN body where they have athletes pose nude and show off their bodies. Ok, kind of a creative idea, i could see why some people would like it. But why the fuck would they have a picture featuring poker players? Poker players are NOT athletes first of all, and second of all how many fucking times do we need to see Phil Hellmuths tits before we realize that he looks fucking gross. Scotty Nguyen, Daniel Negreanu and Jen Harman are also in the picture, and only fucking Hellmuth feels the need to show nipple... WTF...

blog about a win?

So i decided that since all i do is post about how i lose, i'll try something new. I ran really hot playing 5/10 at bodog, and ended up about 5 buyins. It started out pretty bad as i was stuck about 3 or 4k. I made some bad bluffs and some bad calls. A spot came up where i opened AA utg (full ring) and about 6 or 7 people called. It comes K66 it checked around the last to act, he bet, i'm the only one to call. He bets a brick turn, i call, and he shoves the river. I really wanted to fold but there was a chance he was just a donk and vb'ing like kq or something, but he had a 6 so whatever. Then, I had A9o in the bb, the sb (a pretty good reg) opens, i call. Flop is 10 5 2, check check, turn is a 3, he checks, i bet, he raises. At this point, i'm not really sure what he has. He raised me pretty big, and at the time i just felt like, he knew that i had some sort or medium strength hand that didn't want to play a big pot. I decided to call with the intention of shoving most rivers, which i did, but he had A4, so it didnt work out so well. A4 makes a lot of sense actually, because i expected him to bet most of his straight draws, but since he had showdown value with A4, it kinda made sense for him to check it. Then i ran crazy hot and sucked out on some people and ended up a winner.

Another blog, another loss

I seem to only like blogging after my bad sessions. I guess it helps me un-tilt to just talk about it. I played like absolute shit i will say that. I ended up losing like 4.7k, which isn't horrible at 5-10 / 3-6. There were a lot of spots against some bad players where i just made really really bad mistakes. I just expected these passive donks to not be THAT bad, and be at least capable of semibluffing in some spots that they probably wouldnt. I also bluffed away a lot of chips on some regs who i feel like are kinda weak, but i just made really bad plays against them. I seem to have a ton of trouble playing full ring games now, i'm so used to playing 6-max, and i always donk off so many chips to super passive players that just wait for the nuts and for me to do something stupid. i dont know, its so much easier for me to play against more aggressive players for some reason. I've actually been doing ok prior to today, so i'm still up a little bit for the week, and i'm going to finish the month up about 23.5k, mostly due to my tourney score, but hey i'll take it. My goal is to make 40k in 3 months, VERY VERY doable if i'm not lazy, and i run half decent.

I suck.

I just had my biggest loss today in terms of BBs. I lost 10 buyins at 2/4, which is really gross. I felt like i played ok, i did a couple of spewy things, but i feel like i just got pretty unlucky in some big pots. I was playing pretty manaically and i was expecting to get called down pretty light, unfortunately i usually got sucked out on and i ended up value betting the worst hand.

First big hand was a 400 bb pot, where i 4 bet 52c on the button, against a pretty aggressive cutoff player. he calls, flop is 10 7 2 cc, he check raises me in, and i call it off against his JJ, he holds. Pretty standard except for the 4 betting 52cc. I'd been 3 betting a lot of buttons, but i havent been 4 betting a lot. The guy who 3 bet was pretty aggressive in position, so i just felt 4 betting here couldnt be that bad, i'd put him in some tough spots, and i'd win the pot a good amount of the time also.

Next hand is also for 400 bbs, i 3 bet K6d to 36 against the same guy, he calls. It comes K 6 2 cc. he checks i bet 52 into 84, he calls, turn is a 2, he check calls 144, River is a Jc, I bet 436, he shoves for 250 more, i vomit and call him. He tables QTcc. I like my opponents play here, because he knows that i have to VB pretty thin on a lot of rivers because of how aggressively i've been playing. I probably couldve found a fold here, since i dont see how he could possibly be bluffing, but it was like 250 to win 1600 and i just couldnt throw it away. I was kinda surprised he showed up with a flush here. K 6 2 seems like a decent semi bluffing board and i just expect a draw to monkey it in on the flop or the turn, but he played it well.

This one is for close to 400 bbs again, i 3 bet JTo on the button and get called. Flop is T T Q, my opponent check calls 52, turn is an 8, I bet he calls, River is an A, I bet again, he calls, he tables J9. When he calls me on the flop, i felt like his range was very Q heavy, and i felt like the turn was actually good for me, because a lot of his range would now have pair plus gutshot or open ender. I dont like the river, but i dont think i'm ever getting check raised there, and i felt like i was giving up too much value by not betting, especially with my image, plus it did improve AJ, AQ, and AK, all of which he couldve called me with on the flop. (Maybe not so much AK, hes probably 4 betting that a decent percentage of the time, and folding on the turn to a second barrell).

Those were the 3 biggest hands, i had some other 100 bb losses that were just kinda standard.

I feel like i got away from my normal game a bit. I was probably still a little hyped over my tourney score, and it caused me to play just way too LAGgy. Hopefully i built up a nice image for myself, and i can win a lot of it back tomorrow.

On a seperate note, someone commented on my last post and said that I didn't show any class at the FT of the bodog 100k. I have no idea what he/she was talking about. I barely said anything in the chat, nothing that i felt like was offensive, i didn't slow roll anyone, i didnt berate anyone, so whatever.

SHIP IT!

Just won the 100k gaurenteed on bodog for 25k. There was quite a bit of controversy however. The bodog server went down for a period of time, and some people were able to log back in sooner than others. Luckily i had amassed such a large chip stack before i got dc'ed (I had 240k, twice the next highest player and about 6x the average), and i managed to still have decent chips by the time i logged back in. Everyone was pretty furious however, and rightfully so, as many of them got withered away to nothing. Bodog being the POS that it is, couldnt really do anything about it, but i guess i cant really complain cuz it all worked out great for me.

I'm just the worst.

Played about 7 hours of poker, and about 5k hands. Dropped about 3k. I feel like i'm playing ok... but i just feel like shit. Its like everytime i get called i'm at the bluff end of my range, and everytime people are folding i'm at the top end. I think i might be overthinking things a bit, but i dont know.

In other news my fantasy team won this week. I definetly had the refs on my side. My opponent had calvin johnson, who had a 64 yard td taken away when they said he stepped out at the 3. He also had gates, who shouldve been credited with a td, but was ruled down at the 1, and i had the chargers d, and an oakland reciever had a td taken away from him after a booth review. Considering i had to autodraft my team due to technical difficulties i'm pretty happy. I made some nice waiver pick ups, Cadillac Williams and Brandon Marshall (this idiot kid dropped him for no reason).

So my team is looking like this for next week,

Starters:

QB: Drew Brees

RB: Marion Barber

RB: Ryan Grant

Flex: Cadillac Williams or Ronnie Brown, not sure who i want to start yet.

WR: Andre Johnson

WR: Antonio Bryant or Brandon Marshall or Mark Clayton if i can claim him

TE: Jason Witten

D/SpT: Chargers, but i'm trying to claim the Seahawks

K: Mason Crosby

Life update

I guess this post is just a rando update of whats been going on in my life the past few days. I went to my friend's mom's funeral the other day. She had been battling cancer for a while and she finally passed about a week ago. Kinda puts life in perspective. As a poker player, i whine and complain about how bad i run, but really i've run good at a lot of things in life, and i should be thankful that i do something i love doing for a living, and that i'm healthy and my family's healthy. I dropped about 5k the other night playing 5/10 plo on bodog, i played like shit, and lost a couple of flips. I might have to vowe off plo forever, i just cant deal with it and i dont have a good frame of mind when i'm playing. I'm continueing to run good in holdem, and if it werent for that little 5k setback i'd be doing very good this month, but i'm still doing fine. I was planning on playing a few tournies tonight, but my internet connection is fucking retarded and i keep getting dc'ed so whatever, i'll just take the night off and watch the US open.

running hot

i'm running ridiculously hot playing 2/4 fulltilt and my decision to lay off the plo fro a while is paying off at least for now. According to HEM im running like 7k above expectation, but hey i'm ok with that. I'm not sure if thats really a great indicator of how you're playing. I'm not saying i'm not running ridiculously good, but if your all-in EV is slightly negative is that necessarily a bad thing? If i'm almost always the aggressor shouldnt i be getting my money in bad spots sometimes? I dont know.

Just Grindin...

Been playing a lot the past week, well a lot for me anyway. I Ended August up about 7k, considering i only played about 10 days, i'm satisfied with it. It felt like i ran just awful today playing 2/4 plo. I felt like i played ok, I got in a lot of 4 bets with AAxx, and people called w/ a pot sized bet left, and they'd dink the nuts on me. I'm thinking about giving up plo for a while. I'm not even a winner in the 2/4 game on fulltilt. (i'm still a pretty decent winner overall at other limits and bodog.) For some reason the 2/4 fulltilt games are just RIDICULOUSLY swingy, theres just way more aggression it seems in those games than the other stakes i've played. On another note, i just got Holdem Manager, and after using it once, i'm amazed i've been able to survive without it. I dont have the bodog handgrabber, but i dont think i really need it because the bodog player base is so small. Thats all i got, later.

back at it

been hittin the tables a good amount the past few days since i just got my internet back. I've been running kinda bad, and i'm also kinda rusty, so its not really surprising that i'm stuck about 4k this week. It could be worse i guess, but i feel like i'm getting closer and closer to where i need to be every hand i play. Starting next week i'm pretty much gonna be in full grind mode, and hopefully i'll have hit my stride and run a little better by then.

I bought seasons 5-8 of the simpsons, and every episode is just so classic, totally worth it. Fantasy football draft is tomorrow night and i'm so psyched about it. Last year i couldnt get enough people to play, and i ended up watching a ton of football and rooting for no one. I was like the neutral people from futurama. Things would happen and i'd be like, 'i neither support or oppose this'. Ok thats all i got for now, peace out.
