Black Friday / Coaching

Hey Guys,

Well, the last few weeks have been pretty rough on all American poker players. I won't go too crazy discussing all the details, talk about my political views, or speculate on what will happen in the upcoming months as there is a lot of material out there written by people much more qualified than myself. I will say, though, that I am very upset by the actions of the DOJ, and I hope that we will have proper regulation of online poker in the US very soon.

I still plan to play poker professionally. I love playing poker and believe that I can still make a good living playing primarily in the live arena. I am also working on getting money onto the other sites that still offer games to American players. As of now, I don't plan to move out of the country, but I certainly won't rule out the possibility.

Unfortunately, i don't think I will have any plans solidied until after the WSOP. I plan on spending a good amount of time in Vegas during the series and think I will have a lot better understanding of my options afterwards. I was planning to play a lot of events at the WSOP this summer, but since Black Friday took away my primary source of income, I think I am going to mostly grind cash games while I am out there. I certainly think I am very plus EV in the tourneys, but they will also be a lot higher variance. Since my income after the series will be pretty unknown (and likely reduced a fair amount), I'll likely take the lower variance route and mostly grind cash while just playing a few events. I also plan to go to Vegas next week during the WPT Championship. I probably won't play the main event, but I may play a prelim or two. I will mostly be there to grind cash games and hang out with friends. I'm hoping to have my WSOP plans finalized by the end of that trip.

Outside of Black Friday, life has been pretty good. I've had friends and family stay with me several weekends over the last few months, been to a number of baseball and college hockey games, played gigs/jammed with the band, started softball, and I hope to start golfing for the summer soon too. Unfortunately, since my ability to grind online went away (which I just really got back into again!), I have been pretty lazy. I've only played live cash once in the last two weeks along with played in one tourney. Fortunately, I took 2nd in the tourney (out of 160 players), so I am still running red hot in tourneys. While I have gotten a lot of little things done, I haven't really "worked" much in the last few weeks and it is starting to wear on me. While my ability to play online is hindered right now, I should be trying harder to get more live games going along with coaching more.

That seems like a good segway into...I am starting to offer coaching again. To everyone who has sent me requests over the last year, I thank you for the interest and I'm sorry I didn't have the time to coach then. I have a very long waitlist, but I don't know who is still interested as the industry has changed a lot in the last few weeks. As result, it would be great if you could send a request again. Of course, I will be offering coaching to people who haven't contacted me in the past as well, and I really see the only way of doing this to be first come, first serve. I am going to lower my rates substantially from what I was planning to charge when I got back into coaching as I know the market has changed. I'll be happy to let you know my rates if you email me at:

I plan to mostly coach PLO students (HU and 6m), but will be open to coaching students for tournaments (primarily live) along with NL cash games. With NL cash games, though, I will only look to coach players playing 2/4 or lower as I haven't played a lot of online NL cash in the last year. You can get an idea of how I think by watching my vids here at BFP, specifically my 2 Views series and my Exploit series. Of course, any session review vid will also give you insight to my approach.

If you want more information about my experience, results, etc you can email me as I would prefer not to post all that publically. I will say here, though, that I have been an online cash game pro for nearly 4 years now, and have been formally coached by Phil Galfond (primarily in online PLO cash games). Of course, I also talk poker regularly with many other great players.

I will be looking to take on students right away and work in as many lessons as I can before the WSOP (with the exception of when I'm in Vegas for part of next week). I will also make time during the wsop to continue coaching existing students, but likely won't take on any new students for awhile starting on June 13th when I head out. Email me at: if you are interested.

I hope you guys are doing well. This is a tough time for all US poker players, and I hope we can keep the game we all love strong.

Edit: I am already getting a lot of emails. Thanks a lot for all the interest. I will start getting back to people tonight. Just keep in mind it may take me a day or two to get back to you as the interest seems very high. Thanks again guys. I look forward to working with some of you!

I just want to say that Jason is a great coach. I worked with him for 14 sessions, and about 6 sessions in, he found the missing link in my thought process and nothing has been the same since.

I had always been a small winner, yet very strong in poker theory. Working with Jason really moved things to the next level and brought me from a small winner to a fairly strong winner. Phenomenal coach.
