10 Hr Grind.
Post Date: 24 Mar, 2010

Well today i decided to grind it out and see what would happen.

I started out running a bit bad. I decided to switch to Rush 6max 25NL to work on position hand range openings and hand reading. I opened 4 tables and turned on the progressive trance and started clicking away.

I ending up running 4 buying less than EV.I I avged 7bb/100 hands over the time period. It was pretty gross in some places. I was checking out the stats and I was a winner in every category except when someone else raised and i either entered the pot or reraised them. Most of the losses in this catergory were sick two outers on the river and one hand it was pretty disgusting.

I feel like I am running bad as hell. I went to the casino a couple times in the last week and was card dead for the whole time. I picked up JJ's 3 times and flop kept coming out KQ5ss and i was always against 3 opp who definitely had a K. I also hand 3 hands where i had a open ended + flush draw and kept missing. I never hit a set and was there for about 8 hours. I walked out of there with - one buy in. I also straddled one time and picked up 1010 and some short stack had limped with 45BB behind and i raised to 21 BB and he shoved and it was pretty much a call i think because i had an aggro image i felt like he could be doing that with any AQ+ 88+.

I feel like my old style of playing is slowing creeping in after all these badbeats and shit. Its hard to place what kind of style of have.

Recently I have become pretty aggressive preflop raising with what i feel is better hands hand the opening ranges of the positions. Balancing with suited connectors 80 - 20 on the button and such.

After the flop though i feel almost gun shy and feel like a lot of bets are transparent and easy to read. I make my cbets whenever i hit or have a good backdoor draw. It get raised about 20 percent of the time and have no idea what to do unless i have top pair and then I usually fold to the 3rd barrel on the river, unless they stop on the turn.

Playing 25nl its hard to sometimes put people on hands. There is a lot of bet sizing and random bluffs on rivers that make you calling river pot bets just to break even. I'm starting to become a rake back winner and play for 400 hands break even and the only times i am winning a session is if i pick up a lot of KK+ type of hands or hit some flushes with the suited connectors.

Im thinking of possibly looking for a coach for 6max. I really wish i had friends online or in real life that play these limits. I watch a lot of the vidoes on here and read a couple of books but it always looks alot easier.

if anyone out there knows of a good 25-50nl 6 max coach who is cheap or takes a percentage of winnings or something let me know.  Being a student its hard to find funds and I'd like to afford it but i don't trust a lot of the "coaches" to actually feel like they are worth the cost.

In life

Exams are coming up again, another year almost done :) I have A - A minus in all my classes and I would like to keep them that way. I am playing a good schedule for April and working on getting into some sort of a fitness+yoga balance with the studying to keep me in good shape throughout them.

In love, Im still single. Idk but im pretty sure i posted before that i just got out of a 5 year relationship and its been kinda difficult getting over the familiar. The ex was in last weekend and we went to a university friends jack and jill. If anyone has ever gone to one of those things its pretty awful. I don't like the obv stealing of cash that takes place and the venue was just bad. Having her up was good, i enjoyed the company, we went out for dinner, hit up the jack and jill, and then went back to my place and fooled around.

Having her around this weekend made me really miss her. We broke up last year due to long distance her doing grad studies in Montreal and I in Ottawa. We both have plans which we wanted to accomplish and i feel like either of us wanted to settle for being the other stay at home counterpart. I always felt like there was a future there for us, maybe later one once we figure out what we want to do the rest of our lifes. I feel like both of us need to mature a bit more, if that is ever going to happen. Her emotional, and for I more goals and being a bit more active.

Anyways GL at the tables.

Well last week was reading week. I went to Lac Leamy Casino and went on a good run.

The dates are on the bottom and i was playing 1/2NL. I had three days where i finished over ~1000$. Good times. I deposited it into the bank and bumped my online roll to 1000 dollars.

Saving myself 10 buyins for live and 50 buyins for online 25NL. I also won 250 this weekend playing 20 Capped PLO. So i have 1250 online now and working towards my goal of 2000 dollars for the beginning of May.

Online poker lately has been going meh. I started playing rush poker and its a nit fest. You get min raised all over the place and you have no reads on anyone its hard to play against.

I am going to stay away from it Rush and concentrate on playing 6 max NL and PLO capped within my roll.

Poker is going meh. I disposited just over 200 at the beginning of the year and now have i have 400 playing .10/.25

Poker is messing with my confidence It seems whenever i have a decent hand I get it all in preflop verse another underpair and they hit a set.

I am losing these monster spots all the time. I raise get called by someone who has not odds drawing for sets. I hit top two pair I cbet he 3x meh with only 20 BB behind and i get it in and he has a set.

Lac Leamy Round 2
Post Date: 30 Dec, 2009

Well I just got home its 7am and I thought I'd right this down well i have it fresh in my memory.

I was card dead all night. I played for 13 hours I was able to pick up QQ x1, 1010 4x, JJ 1x, KK 1x, and AA 1x. I was running extremely bad and was unable to capitalize on the horrible players there tonight. I was drawing too with odds aleast 10 flush draws out of 12 and couldnt hit. I was able to pick up a couple of smaller pots tho from squeezing a couple juicy pots and raising all the limpers on the button and cutoff with mid connectors.

Three hands stood out tonight. I think i played them fine but the end results was unsatisfactory.

1/2 NL 10 Person Table.

#1  8c7c on the button

4 Limpers for 2 dollars i raise to 16 on the button Sb calls and rest fold. SB is a complete donk. Flop comes

Pot:: 40ish

Qc 9s 6c

I cbet 18, he calls.

turn Jc, Pot is 75ish and i have 140 behind. I bet make a 55 dollars bet. He calls. There leaves me 85 behind 200 dollar pot. River is 9c. He checks instantly and its to me on the botton.

Now his range to me is high club, or two pair from the start or turn. This means that i either he was drawing for the flush on the turn with a pair or he had to two pair and no club. or flopped a set of and played it weird. I think about shoving my last 85 pot into the pot, But i feel like if he called the turn with 3 clubs he must have a boat or a flush that is higher than mine and isnt going to lay it down when he finally hits its. I check and he shows me Jh10c.

#2 UTG straddles 140BB effective stacks.

I raise from the cutoff 12 dollars with 10s10c he just calls.

Flop Kh 10d 8s I bet 15 dollars into 28 dollars pot. He calls.

Turn is a 7s he checks and i fire 24 dollars he raises to 60 dollars and starts saying yours Aces are no good. I murdered that flop I call because I think he has two pair alot of the time and I to ship it on river when he cbet. The river is a 9s.

Kh 10d 8s 7s 9s he thinks for a sec and say all in and bets 140 dollars into the pot. I think for sure he has to have a J here i was thinking J9o or something cause thats how i played out. Anyways I think about for a while and fold. He looked extremely confident and almost like he was glad to finally "outdraw a good hand".

#3 J4o from the BB.

Flop is check around on a Kh Js 4h turn is a 4s a guy bets 7 into 15 dollars I called from BB river is a Jh. Giving a flush and making the Boat possible, I think I could go for a weak Vbet and lead for 16 into 25 he thinks for a bit and makes it 100 to go.

I cant put him on KJ cause he check the flop with two possible draw, flush and straight. I really felt like i was beat here but i could put him on a better hand then my JJJ44. Anyways I call.... and he had KK...

Oh well I lost 370 dollars tonight. I had a terrible time i was never up but i played my hands and make spots for myself and I think it was just in the cards.

Back Again.
Post Date: 24 Dec, 2009

Well what a semester. Organic Chem II basically fucked me over hard. The average of the midterm i wrote was 56 and i got a 46. The final was 52 percent and the whole class is waiting to see what the bell curve will be. I current have a 45 percent in the class so I hope i get 6 percent ! :P so least i could say i got a 51. lol

Then my birthday was the 18 of the October and that poker game i went to on Saturday some moron gave me the swine flu so was in bed for two days after that test. Great birthday for me laying in bed :\

So after all my midterms and getting over my sickness it was November 1 and I had 30 days till exams started my 30 dollars a month for BFP was due and  I decided that i would cut off my BFP membership till after Finals Exams so i could get a good grip on this organic chem and do well on the finals. I just finished the finals on the 21st and i relaxed by going to the casino. :P

I bought in for 200 and my high pt was probably 930. I was there for probably too long at the end i ended up bluffing 300 dollars away against a guy i thought for sure had two pair and i had a straight draw but a flush draw was on the board and i shipped the river for 3.5x his bet putting 80 percent of his stack in and he called. :\

I feel like i get really restless if i dont get hands for a long time. I was card dead for about 5 rotations and i felt like i should have won a pot. I believe this is tilt, but in the moment i am seeing can i represent this ? what about that? hmm

Anyways i walked out of there with 440 which was not all bad :\ But the extra would have been sweet. I am thinking i am going to limit myself to 10 hours max. I am pretty good with that and most of the stupid stuff i do happens in the am around 2-4 and i end up leaving at 4.

So in conclusion. 14 + 30 days selfexclusion on FTP ended yesterday. I had no funds on FTP however i did have 70 on PS and 44k of points so i have 300 dollars that i could sell for 3.4$/1k. I will end up with 225ish i think and disposit 200 from my bank card.

Going from 500 - 2000 Starting Jan first. I also bought harrington on holdem cashgames 1 and 2 and pot limit omaha from 2+2 should be a good read over the holidays.

Merry Christmas.

Bankroll, School, Life.
Post Date: 15 Oct, 2009

Well Life is good.

I recently lost my entire live bankroll. I had 900 dollars for playing 1/2, I tried to bring it up being the games were soft and what not. Unsuccessfully though. Varience was too much for me.

I ran into one cooler and the rest were just sick 90% favourites on the turn all in. Bam loser.

Im somewhat happy though, the casino was pretty easy money but the rake was insane. If you dont know lac leamy has a 10% max of 7 dollars on the 1/2 + 1 going to badbeat + tip. Really eats at your stack. I dont have enough to try and get back into live, but maybe i can find a stacker or something. Ill probably just wait for when my roll is 5000+. So when i get back my income tax.

My online bankroll is going well. Im am gradually winning I think I am at 8 bb/100. Pretty small for 25nl. But this month has not been going well, and i havent put that many hands in considering i was spending 18+ hours at hte casino. Thats another thing i dislike, how slow it is and how juicey the games are. You feel you have to stay just so u can bust this moron. Leaving you to feel like shit the next 4 days and not being able to play Sun/Mon nights when some fish are on. ;\

My bankroll is 1215 for 25NL. I am past the 20 buyins for 50NL. But considering I am a marginal winner I want to stay here and work on my postflop game a bit more. I feel I am losing alot of cash by not bluffing more. I just play my hands for what they are worth i think and i am missing the money thats in the middle when i know my oppn doesnt have a strong hand on the river and bets thinnly. I think i would check/raise and get them to fold a bit. But Im kinda nitty like that. I really opened my game since coming to bluefire. I used to only play SNG and tournies and would basically only play AQ+, 55+ and suited connectors multiway. Folding to cbet all the time if i missed. But 6 max has helped me i think. I think thats the problem with alot of break even players. Unless your playing against someone that is throwing their money at you. Most times you will be 60/40 under or over dog. If essentially check to the river you will basically break even because you aren't always +ev. I think I also got to work on my betting. I for some reason always bet the same amount when cbeting usually 5BB after PFR for 3.5. I bet this when i have a monster or when i have nothing. I think its a good balance but i feel like I am losing 1 BB everytime i do this. Or 6-7bb in a three way pot for 12 BB. When I have a monster always. I think i could bet 10 here most of the time that way i set myself up for bigger pots on the turn where i can bet more. Then mostly Vbet the river giving an excellent price to smart players after i put them on a hand. And Vbetting bigger into donks that dont know any better. Maybe even merging so they cant put me on a hand because its either a missed draw or a monster. Anyways thats my idea.

I think that would be a good vid. I remember Giggy doing one based on players. I think he could really expand on that. Soo much is player dependent. I think i just have to get that into my brain.

I read a post by whitelime saying that the progression of skill goes

SNG->9max->6max->3max->HU

Im midway between 9-6 i think.

I was also thinking along the lines of rake at 25NL its pretty ridic. I was wondering if thats why i am a marginal winner. We shall see.

I have also been reading alot of the SSNL Database of links on 2+2. Pretty good stuff. I also been reading Phils posts over at bluffmag. If he wanted to make a quick vid about those i think that would prove to be a good one and a easy subject for him to cover.

I also ordered the Harrington on Holdem Cash games 1/2 and Omaha 6 Max (new one from 2+2) Its taking about 1.5 weeks to get here though and I have no idea where it is because USPS doesnt really update their tracking that since the 7th.

I also bought a nice little journal book where i will be putting useful posts and concepts that i find when read those books and I am going to go through some vids especially Ryans Fees 400NL/50NL vid. That vid alone was insanely stacked with useful info.

Im playing a home game on Saturday after my Organic Chem midterm. 20 dollar tourny with 10NL after it. Its kinda small stacks butI have no friends in Ottawa since moving here and i need some human interaction.

Its also midterm season at the Uni, I got one 17th,21th,23rd,28th. So will be grinding less over the next couple of weeks.

My goal is to hit 2000 before christmas. Im looking forward to playing .25/.5

Im also thinking of switching to 3 tabling, 4 is a bit much for me to really concentrate especially now since i have to think of lines and its not automatic at this point. My current VPIP/PFR stats are about 22/16. I think thats average, but im opening alot more in the CO and tighting my range MP UTG. Donks at theses levels call way too much and its hard to play OOP very someone with a range of 40+% and who is a station.

Also for those that like Matthew Good. Check out his new album "Vancouver" I love every song on this album. I have tickets to his thing in Ottawa Dec 11. I have seen him one time before and it was amazing. I cant wait to hear his new stuff live though.

Weekend Poker.
Post Date: 11 Oct, 2009

So after Grinding away all morning I won 125 dollars at omaha. i come back and lose 4 buy ins in 70 hands of HL. Fucking sundays.

I'm kinda tilted atm the moment. I knew exactly what everyone had. But then they reshove and commit themselves with a shitty draw they didnt have outs for.

Lac Leamy Probably no more

So being a super poor student.

I went to the casino with my whole live poker roll. All 760 of it. I had 1100 online and thought i could dominate the tables which i did. But i cant beat varience. I got my money in twice as a favourite

9 8 dd vs Q10

I call on the button in a limped 6 way pot

Flop 10 Jd 3 rainbow

He leads for 20 into 30 and gets 2 other callers i call on the button.

 turn is a Q

He leads for 50 with 130 behind into a pot of 110. I raise all in with the sucker straight. He thinks about for it for about 30secs then calls. With top and mid pair

10 on the river.

All the sharks at the table are saying well u gotta get ur money in behind sometimes to win.

I do nothing but say good hand.

Then i manage to miss every nut draw I got the night. I top my stack up a few times. Missing every flop and every preflop raise is about 12 bucks.

I had 70 left and decide to squeeze this moron who has been opening 7 5o 83o etc. I push squeezing the10$  raise and two people behind. BB wakes up with a monster AJdd and calls 65 cold. I had A9ss ggz.

I have no more cash to play with live. I think im just going to spend my times on the internets. Where i am overrolled and can face the varience. Least i dont have to play the 7 dollar rake + 1 tip + Badbeat. Thats pretty insane.

Anyways to running good. :) Peace

Overall Question about Capped Potlimit Omaha

I usually play these on FTP and have had some success (+20 buy ins) and more in rakeback.

I was wondering what the general play is in the low buy in fields where you find alot of donks calling away gambling with 1/2 the cap with 9 7 6 5 one suit.

Where there is 3+ plus players per flop and you equity against their hands is at best 30 percent.

I've experimented with raising 2x the BB from EP,MP and 3x CO and 1.75 from the Bn. Since position is huge in these games especially from the button.

This always allows u to get a cheap flop against a obv 3 bet with AAxx or to 4 bet ~ 1/2 the cap when u have.

Problem is with this strat is more people see the flop and my hand either hits or it doesnt most of the time. Should I be raising 1.75 and just be prepared to fire a Cbet everytime in pos? Shoving all in with 15+ out hands? How many outs do u think i need?

20 Cap

1.75 + 1.75 + .75 = 4.25

4.25 + 3(cbet) = 7.25

C/r to 13.25 (pot? is that right?) so he is commited.

So basically

7.25 + (20-1.75) = Pot 25.50

It will cost me 15.25 to win 25.50 so I need to have a Ev of 0.60?

I was wondering how to run ev calculators for omaha hands. I hear don and phil talking about running cals but idk how to do that with just numbers. can someone show me the light? I'm currently taking a uni stats course and was wondering how i can go about it to improve my game.

Let me know if this is right or if someone can point me in the right direction thanks.

Well Another Month Down
Post Date: 04 Oct, 2009

I was -1 Buyin for online poker this month, I was able to play 10k hands but i was mostly playing during the week, and the weekends are more softer. Rake back saved me. I'm +900 live though.

I went to the casino last night I did pretty good considering the action

I lost my first buyin verse a huge donk he was raising all the time with 92o 106s and bluffing showing etc. He was pretty intoxicated.

I was in the SB he was in the BB everyone limps preflop

I have 64s

Flop 752 Donk leads for 10 into 8 theres one caller from the Button and I call.

Turn is a 8 giving me the straight I check again since this guy fires every card even when it gets dangerous. I bes 25 in 38 and the Button raises. I he is an old man who always raises with two pair he makes it 60 to go I rr to 120 and the donk shoves button folds.  I call

He has 96 for the higher straight .. Never saw that coming.

I also made a huge call for my standards last night

I had K8cc from the Cutoff I raise to 7 button bb calls

Flop 2c 5c Js two clubs. I lead for 13 into 25ish Button calls BB folds

Turn is an 8s I lead 26 the guy on the button says raise.and makes it 65. Now i thought he was full of shit because of the way he professed raise and all this matter. I thought my 8 was good and my Fulldraw was there incase i was wrong. I call and check the river. The river is a 6s. He counts out his chips for all of 2 secs and says im all in. Betting 149 into 160, The last spade gave a Bd Fd and apart i wasnt really worried, I've played with him before and he loves making theses weak value bets. I don't think he would be that way with straight flush draw hands on the board etc. I was more worried about him having 1010 99 then anything else. I think about it for a bit and i come to the conclusion that i think my 8 is good. I call and he open mucks

Everyone was surprised I called with a dry 8. But idk i was pretty calm coming to the conclusion and I felt like i was right.

I was up 290+ for the night then my last hand came, A donk who has been giving away his money all night makes it 5 from UTG I pick up AKo and raise to 16 and I get two callers behind me.

Flop K 4 4 two c

I bet 35 i get one caller behind me turn is a K

I thought he might have a K or underpair. So i decided to get tricky. Being 3 am idk why i did it but i thought what card could come where i am behind. So i check to him he bets 35 into 100. I just call.

River is 4

Now i am kinda mad at myself because i thought i lost some value so i bet 70 and i get raise 180 all in from the guy, I call and rolls over A4o

So quads. Now idk what the fuck he was doing there calling 16 preflop with AK but i felted like i played it weird enough that i was ahead 80 percent of the time to a bluff or a K as well.

Anways all the profits when bye bye, So i guess I try again next week,

I was listening to one of Phil's vids where he was saying something about booking a win. I keep getting up 2 buy ins then losing it in one huge pot,.

Being a student and what not I feel like i should be walking away but theres just soo much fresh cash on the table. But I think i need to start limiting the lengths of the sessions Yesterday i played for 13 hours its always one hand near the time i leave i lose about 1/5 of my stack, So i have decided if i close my eyes and i get a wave of tiredness i am doing to leave.

Anyways I hope everyone had an Amazing weekend At the tables. Im thinking of playing the 22$ on FTP just for fun. While i do my assignments. Who knows!

Also I was wondering if any regs on FTP in the 25nl want to get together and discuss hands or just overall strats. I was hoping to get a group of 4 where i we can pound the tables and discuss situations.

Let me know

Update
Post Date: 02 Oct, 2009

Well, Its been a long week. I had my Organic Chm test on Thursday and a bunch of assignments due at the beginning, but its been a good week.

I went to the casino on Fri Last week I think my High Point was 650 and Low was 180 but I walked out with 340.

One Big hand was when i had AA and there was one limper in the cut off it was folded to me in the SB I raise to 14 we had about 260 Effective stacks. He calls

Flop comes  3 5 J two spades

I lead 17 in 32  and he raises to 45

I had no idea what he has here. I was thinking flush draw maybe two pair? 64ss 55 33.

I reraise to 110 and he goes all in superfast. I call hoping he has a flush draw I had a the A of spades for a blocker.

He turns over 33 and I brick brick

I left with +130

I went there again on Saturday I played a longer session alot of donks and was unable to capitialize. I had one big hand where it was straddled and I had AA and I raised one caller to 25 the SB calls and the original caller goes all in for 55, I raise to 110 to the guy in the SB who has 140 left He goes all in and I am against

AA > KQo/AKs

I bought in twice for 200 each time and was unable to get above even.

Lost some Big hands

KK vs A6dd on K47dd (-225$)

88 vs AJo (Slow played in the Sb verse active straddle got it in ahead but it went runner runner flush) (-190$)

I'll probably go there this sunday. Working Saturday and probably going to do alot of 6max tonight and watch some BF vids :)

Lac Leamy Round 2
Post Date: 20 Sep, 2009

Went there Again this weekend. I went on friday after my 1pm Ecology class and ended up staying until 9pm Saturday night. :S 30 hours of poker playing! I was feeling pretty good. I could probably have been up a bit more if i had gone home and slept for a bit and came back. I was bluffing alot more when i was tired but most of them were working and it was feeling good.

I bought in for 200 and cashed out for 1504! Tipped the dealer the  4 dollars :)

I was probably missing like 50 dollars from the two dinners i bought. So all in all i am doing pretty good.

I decided to keep track of my Live poker seperately then online stuff. Online i am playing 25NL and live i am playing 1/2. Online i have 1000 dollars and Live i have whats in my bank account 4k~ not counting the 1.5k from my session.

Ive been to the casino 3 times in total since i have been up here

1st- +185

2nd -+395

3rd - -280

4th - +1300

So all in all i have been winning. So ive decided to make a 10 Buy in Bank roll for live poker only and see what happens. 10 is pretty small in comparison but its so passive and theres so many calling stations i feel like i can get in for cheap and get paid off when i hit something and just avoid all in unless i am doing the pushing.

We shall see what happens next week :)

GL @ the tables
